Year 7 students have been reading the novel Lord of the Flies by William Golding. As part of their novel study, students created illustrated island maps of the story’s setting. The students began their illustrated mapping project by creating lists of all of the locations on the island described in the novel. Students shared their locations and compiled a group list of key places described as part of the setting. From there, students created a sketch of the island incorporating the setting details. They were asked to label locations and plan their island according to how areas are described in the novel. Students created a good copy of their map using black pen and watercolour pencil crayons. In their good copy, they were instructed to include the descriptive language from the novel when adding details to their map and in their colour choices for locations.
