Ms. Alyson Moore

Ms. Moore is excited to be joining the 4/5 team again this year. She recently graduated from the UBC’s Teacher Education Program where she studied Arts Education and English as a Second Language. Prior to that, she completed a BFA in Visual Art at UBC. She worked as a display artist for retail stores, as a drawing, painting, and woodshop assistant in the university, and as an primary school literacy mentor before deciding to follow her passion of teaching. In her spare time, she likes to take photographs on her film camera, make art from drawings, paintings, and textiles, and spend time outdoors with her dog.

Mr. Garrett Thorson

Mr. Thorson is thrilled to be kicking off another year at Calgary Arts Academy!

He began his CAA career as a student teacher in 2014, served as a Resident Artist/Homeroom teacher for the Year 4/5 team in 2015/16, and spent the past year working as the Glenmeadows Elementary Music Specialist. This year, Mr. Thorson returns in a combined role as a Year 4/5 Homeroom Facilitator and team leader for the CAA Middle School Music Program.

Mr. Thorson has earned degrees from the University of Alberta (Bachelor of Music), Dalhousie University (Master of Arts – Musicology), and the University of Calgary (Bachelor of Education.)  He has also been an active member of the Calgary music scene for several years, performing throughout Western Canada in groups such as Cowpuncher, Alright Gents, and The Sweets.

Mr. Riley Ohler

Mr. Ohler has been at Calgary Arts Academy since 2010.

He began his career with the Young Canadians School of Performing Arts.  He then graduated from the University of Lethbridge with a bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Dramatic Arts.  After graduation, he joined the Acapella Fellas, who have performed in places as far away as Salt Lake City, Utah and was recently seen on the season finale of YTV’s Zoink’d.

Riley continues to pursue his theatre passion after school hours by performing in various community theatre performances.

Ms. Lori Kearney

Lori Kearney has worked as a resident visual artist at Calgary Arts Academy since 2003 and was involved with the writing of the original charter.

She attended the University of Calgary and took courses in the Bachelor of Education and Fine Arts program and is well versed in working with special needs children.  She is skilled in many mediums including painting, sculpting, mural paintings and mosaics.

She loves working in an environment that supports its community and working with people who are passionately driven to shift the paradigm about how children learn.
