Mr. Tom Caldwell

Mr. Caldwell has been a Director with Calgary Arts Academy Foundation since May 2015.

He currently works in Capital Markets, specializing in energy acquisitions, divestitures and strategic advisory, for a major Canadian bank. Prior to that, he was a co-founder/partner of an independent oil and gas advisory firm for sixteen years.

Born and raised in Alberta, Mr. Caldwell grew up in Calgary and on the family farm in Stettler.

His partner, Sharmaine, and he have three children; two grown sons, Cullen and Jarren, and a daughter Elyse, who attends CAA.

Their oldest son was in the first graduating class of the EDGE school, which has acquainted the family with schools that offer alternative education for children. His younger son also graduated from EDGE.

Mr. Caldwell spent five years on SAIT’s Promising Future Campaign cabinet that raised over $400 million for the construction of new buildings. He has been involved in many other fund raising events. Sharmaine is an active volunteer in many aspects of their community, Elyse’s sport teams, CAA and other charitable causes.

He and his family family enjoy skiing, snowboarding , golfing, hiking, travel and paddle boarding together.

Ms. Laura Bicknell

Laura Bicknell is an Independent Marketing Consultant, specializing in small business branding and development for the past 10 years. She is married to Scott and they have a daughter who attends Calgary Arts Academy, and a son who will start in kindergarten in 2016.

Laura is an active volunteer with various youth and family based organizations within Calgary. She and her family enjoy spending much of their time taking in all the local arts scenes Calgary has to offer and getting away to the majestic mountains at Calgary’s door step.

Laura is passionate about the Arts in all forms and is an avid supporter of Calgary Arts Academy’s innovative Arts Immersion education model.

Nancy Wiswell

Nancy Wiswell is a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) graduate from the University of Manitoba. She has been an active volunteer in the artistic and educational communities, mostly through her four children and their involvements in Young Canadians, theatre, dance and vocal studies.

Nancy served four years with Calgary Regional Arts Foundation reviewing grant proposals for non profit arts organizations, was a longtime member of the Junior League and worked on a fundraising project for the Alberta Ballet. She was the principal set designer and painting artist with the Bonavista Players Theatre Company for 20 years and continues to be involved with the Banff Centre on the Mid Summer Ball Committee, a premiere fund raising event.

Nancy’s family have been part of the passionate staff at CAA since it opened in 2003.

Michelle Ure

Michelle Ure has over 20 years of interior design experience.  She received her education from Mount Royal’s Interior Design program.  Michelle is a mom to two girls, one who has graduated from Calgary Arts Academy and the other who is currently attending.

Michelle is an avid supporter of the education provided by Calgary Arts Academy.

Andrew Wiswell

Andrew Wiswell is an independent consultant and corporate director who graduated with BA and Law (LLB) degrees from the University of Manitoba and an MBA from University of Western Ontario.  He recently completed the ICD Director Certification Program.

During his  more than 30 years in Calgary, his experience includes being President,CEO and senior executive of public and private companies in the energy industry, including Gulf Canada, ICG Propane,Parkland Fuels and, most recently, NAL Energy. Andrew has served on the Board or Cabinet of a number of corporate, industry and volunteer organizations, including Total Energy Services Inc, Mancal Corporation, the United Way and the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers(CAPP.)

In the Arts, Education and Youth areas, Andrew has Board experience with the Ivey School of Business, Red Deer College, ATP, Young Canadians of the Calgary Stampede, Calgary Boys Choir and Bonavista Players Theatre Company.

In 2005, he received an Alberta Centennial medal for community service, and in 2011, he received the Outstanding Alumni Leadership Award,Calgary chapter Ivey School of Business.

His family members have been actively involved in CAA since inception.

Janice Nigh

Ms. Nigh has been the Arts Coordinator at Calgary Arts Academy since the first students stepped of the buses in 2003.  She currently holds the title of Community Arts Coordinator.

She has a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from the University of British Columbia and has worked as a community health nurse.  In addition, she has worked in several schools in Halifax, Vancouver, Phoenix and Calgary, providing educational support to students.

Prior to joining Calgary Arts Academy, Ms. Nigh worked as Family Coordinator at Ronald McDonald House in Calgary.  She is also a volunteer with Calgary Youth Justice in the Extra Judicial Sanctions Program.

She is excited to work with community organizations and make Calgary Arts Academy’s Education Centre on the Calgary Stampede Youth Campus a reality!

Kevin Loftus

Mr. Loftus started with Calgary Arts Academy in 2008.  He has been involved with the school as a volunteer since its inception, and is responsible for the design of the original logo and website.

Dale Erickson

Dale Erickson was involved with the writing of our original charter and has worked at Calgary Arts Academy since opening in 2003.

Mr. Erickson completed his Bachelor of Education degree at the University of Calgary and his Masters of Science degree at the University of Oregon.

He is passionate about all art forms.  His area of specialty is music.

For Mr. Erickson, Calgary Arts Academy is a dream come true!
