The Government of Canada’s official science web portal,  Science.gc.ca, is pleased to announce the launch of a collection of free online resources for educators.  From lesson plans to classroom activities, this collection brings together quality online classroom resources from across the Government of Canada.

Free Resources for Parents and Students

The Alberta Learning website provides access to some fantastic information and resources including educational games, links, and more for parents and students. All students in Alberta have on-line access to a set of encyclopedias, dictionaries and thesauri through Grolier Online and the Online Reference Centre (ORC).

To Log-in you will need to enter the following:

PLEASE NOTE: You can only access the Grolier Online Resources using the Alberta Learning website, User ID and Password noted above.

Once you have logged in to the Alberta Learning Website using the password and user ID noted above, you can select the Online Reference Centre or type Grolier Online in the box underneath Search LearnAlberta.ca Resources and click on the search icon. A list of references and the appropriate grade levels will appear for you to choose from.

Grolier Online Kids is for students in grades 3 – 7. This database of online reference resources includes magazine articles, pictures, videos, maps and more… and includes access to: Amazing Animals of the World, Grolier Multimedia Encyclopedia, Lands and Peoples and The New Book of Knowledge.

Grolier Online Passport is for students in grades 7 – 12. This database of online reference resources includes magazine articles, pictures, videos, maps and more… and includes access to: Amazing Animals of the World, Grolier Multimedia Encyclopedia, Lands and Peoples and The New Book of Knowledge.

If you are “New to Grolier Online,” Select Start Here: Go Tutorial, otherwise, you can select the reference of your choice or use the search function and type in your subject. (Parents of young students may want to go through the tutorial together with their child(ren).

The ORC for students in K – grade 12 consists of several on-line research databases including the Canadian Encyclopedia, eLibrary elementary, the History Study Centre, the Science Resource Centre, World Book for Kids, World Book Online and more!
